What is management
A first try at defining management
My stance
First things first, according to Dictionary.com (n.d.) the roots of manage date back to Italy and Latin. In its origin, manage stems from manege and means to train, lead, or walk with the horses. In the figurative sense, we could just replace horses with “X”, such as machines, events, humans, and we would end up with a nice picture of a manager training, leading, or running the subject under management. This picture conveys at least following facettes that deserve more attention:
- a manager,
- subject
- leadership
- a process in time, and
- a goal or target state.
From my current point of view, the well crafted interplay of these facettes guarantees goal achieval.
During execution, uncertainties and manifested risks influence execution.
