Waterfall vs Agile

Waterfall vs Agile

Recently, on LinkedIn, a contact of mine wrote an interesting article about Waterfall vs Agile. Malinowski’s article expresses the opinion and observation that, nowadays, people see Waterfall software delivery methodologies as bad and Agile practices as the saviour of us all. I share his observation. Actually, I’d go that far and say that we need to have waterfall methodologies in place to ensure software deliveries within certain boundaries. As an example, consider a project that needs to deliver a large functionality within a fixed timeframe and where delivery problems would lead to overrun on time. If a project manager realizes that a project can’t deliver in time with its current ressources, then we need to put on more resources.

What do you think, is waterfall project management obsolete?
